Meet the Staff / Early Learning

Deb Hartman - Early Learning Center Director

Deb Hartman has been a resident of Trinidad the past 32 years and has two grown children that attended Trinidad Schools. She is a graduate of Trinidad State Jr. College majoring in Early Childhood Education and has worked for South Central Council of Governments since 1998 creating the children' programs at the SCCOG Early Learning Center. The Early Learning Center is Quality Rated in the state of Colorado.

Deb is very active at Holy Trinity Church, the Department of Human Services-Child Protection Team, has been a member of Trinidad Kiwanis, the Trinidad High School Vocational Department Advisory Council, the Huerfano/Las Animas County Early Childhood Council and the Colorado Preschool Program Advisory Council as well as the instructor for the Colorado Department of Education/Colorado Department of Human Services Expanding Quality in Infant Toddler Care and was elected to the Trinidad School District #1 Board of Education. Deb looks forward to making a difference in our community's children and families lives. Renee Monohan - Assistant Director

Renee Monohan

Renee Monohan has worked for SCCOG Early Learning Center since March 2005, starting out as a teacher's assistant and working her way up to lead teacher- teaching our Toddler, 3 year old and Colorado Preschool classes throughout the years. In January 2012, Renee made the transition from classroom teacher to administration now serving as assistant to the program director and staff supervisor.  The Trinidad Early Learning Center serves 120 children and employs 25 staff.

Renee is an active member in our community and is also an instructor with the Colorado Department of Education/Colorado Department of Human Services Expanding Quality in Infant Toddler Care (EQIT). ,Renee and her husband Lewis have lived in the area since February 2003, they have 2 grown sons and 3 granddaughters. Renee currently serves on the Trinidad Chamber of Commerce Board.  


Kathy Shapiro - Assistant Director

Kathy Shapiro has worked for SCCOG Early Learning Center in Walsenburg since August of 2021.  Prior to coming to SCCOG she was a licensed homecare provider.  Kathy is married and lives with her husband, daughter and granddaughter in Walsenburg.
