Veronica Maes, Area Agency on Aging Director

Veronica Maes - AAA DirectorVeronica Maes is the Director of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for Region 14 at the South Central Council of Governments (SCCOG), where she leads efforts to support and empower older adults in Huerfano and Las Animas Counties. She oversees the administration of programs funded by the Older Americans Act (OAA), ensuring that seniors in southern Colorado have access to essential services that promote independence, dignity, and quality of life.

A lifelong resident of Walsenburg, Colorado, Veronica is deeply connected to the community she serves. After graduating from John Mall High School, she gained extensive experience in the insurance and medical administration fields before earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Regis University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Veronica began her work with SCCOG as a case manager in the Las Animas County Care Services program, where she developed a strong understanding of the needs of the senior population and built lasting relationships within the Trinidad area. Her professional background spans decades in healthcare, insurance, and human resources, equipping her with a well-rounded perspective on aging services.

She is an active member of the Colorado Association of Area Agencies on Aging (C4A) and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (N4A), and she is a certified Notary Public for the State of Colorado.

Veronica and her husband Robert, both Walsenburg natives, continue to live in the community where they were raised. With their son now grown, they remain committed to staying close to family and giving back to the region that shaped their lives. In her free time, Veronica enjoys reading, baking, cooking, and spending time with loved ones. She is also known across the region for her delicious cream puffs, a sweet treat that has become a local favorite.

 

Kyle Gomez, Administrative Assistant

Kyle Gomez joined the South Central Council of Governments in June 2025 as an Administrative Assistant, supporting both the Area Agency on Aging and the Care Services Program. Based in the Walsenburg Office, Kyle plays a key role in keeping operations running smoothly by managing filing systems, answering phones, checking in seniors for their daily meals, and assisting with a variety of administrative tasks as needed.

A proud Walsenburg native, Kyle is deeply committed to serving the community he calls home. He takes great pride in ensuring that local seniors feel welcomed and supported, and he finds genuine joy in helping them access the services and meals they rely on.

Kyle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs. Before joining SCCOG, he worked in child welfare at the Huerfano County Department of Human Services, where he developed a strong foundation in public service and community support.

Outside of work, Kyle enjoys classic rock music, playing video games, and spending quality time with his family.
