Enterprise Zone

Pie chart showing 2018 Enterprise Zone investments by county, with Las Animas County representing about 99% of total investment and Huerfano County representing about 1%.Colorado's Enterprise Zone (EZ) Program provides tax incentives to encourage businesses to locate and expand in designated economically distressed areas. The intent of this program is to encourage a business to locate and expand in a distressed geography. Private-sector business activity encouraged by these income tax incentives brings job opportunities and capital investment to economically distressed areas. The private investment results in tax revenue for school districts, cities, counties and the state, outweighing the cost of tax credits granted.

In 2018, the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit Program resulted in $162,432,693 invested in the South Central Enterprise Zone by private entities. This reflects a 27.83% increase over the investments in 2017.
